Ali Yahia Abdenour, who heads the Algerian League for the Defence of Human Rights, said women and foreign journalists were among those arrested during the five-kilometre-long march to 1 May Square in the city's centre.

The demonstrations in Algiers came just one day after weeks of mass protests toppled Egypt's authoritarian leader Hosni Mubarak.A crowd that organizers estimated at 10,000 skirmished with riot police attempting to block streets and disperse the crowd. Officials put the turnout at only 1,500.

Reports suggested that heavily armed security forces far outnumbered the demonstrators. The Algerian daily newspaper La Liberte said an estimated 28,000 riot police had been deployed in the capital.

That tandem reportedly beat out eight rival bids.

According to NASCAR Vice President of Competition Robin Pemberton, "This is a positive step that will provide greater fuel efficiency and a greener footprint while maintaining the same great competition that we have seen on the race track."

But the opposite is true according to David Frei, who will narrate the annual Westminster Kennel Club Show that airs on USA and CNBC.

Of the 2,500 purebred dogs that will be competing, they really aren’t much different from the 10 or 20 dogs the average New Yorker passes every day on the street and in the neighborhood.

“The public sees that dog so disciplined in the show ring,” says Frei. “What they don’t see is that same dog outside rolling in the mud, or drooling, or shedding on your black pants.”

Around 5:00 a.m. Friday Gelman stabbed his stepfather, Aleksandr Kuznetsov, inside their Sheepshead Bay home.

Hours later, police said he killed his girlfriend and her mother inside their home on East 24th Street.

It is believed that Gelman then stabbed a passing motorist before stealing his vehicle. The carjacked man was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he is listed in grave condition.

The avenue, from East 19th to East 26th, was lined with police cars when I arrived, most awaiting orders for positioning around the neighborhood. The area is serving as the base of operations for the citywide response to the hunt for Maksim Gelman.

In the photo above, crime scene units are suited up to come East 24th Street, where Gelman killed his girlfriend and her mother at around 4:30 p.m. today. All of East 23th remains closed from Avenue U to Avenue Y, as Gelman headed north after the slaying, and then slashed and carjacked another victim at Avenue U.

The comedy is often based in social awkwardness with his fellow Cedar Rapids convention attendees the outrageous Dean Ziegler (John C. Reilly), the straight-man Ronald Wilkes (Isiah Whitlock Jr.) and the one lady in tow Joan Ostrowski-Fox (Anne Heche), and I actually quite enjoyed the performances here especially by Anne Heche who had a great knack for the comedy and being the 'crazy girl who hangs with the guys', but also bringing a subtle but stable emotional centre to the film. Ed Helms is perfect as Tim, whose emotions are all over the place from being overwhelmed and excited to scared but always driven to work to achieve his goal. Now that goal is one of the things that didn't quite sit well with me with the film, as it was about a convention, but there wasn't much convention-ing going on at the convention. There was lots of fun activities, planned or spontaneous, but I never felt like we saw whatever it was that Tim was supposed to be doing there, which was a huge driving force of the film.

Tourists from Egypt, around the region, and the rest of the world visit Sharm el-Sheikh for the casinos, diving, long swaths of natural beaches, year-round dry and temperate climate, and discos.

What better place for an embattled President to "retire"?

This won't be the first time Sharm el-Sheikh has garnered attention for something other than being a resort city. The 2005 Sharm el-Sheikh terrorists attacks killed 88 people, mostly Egyptian tourists, and significantly set the local economy back.

Egypt's tourism industry is suffering because of the current turmoil, but with reports of Mubarak resigning, even if it is to Sharm el-Sheikh, it isn't unreasonable to assume this popular tourist destination will rise again.

Which is nice, but not the same thing as selling out of the actual item.

Also, the dress appears to be in stock on Ovitz’s own site, and a search on ShopStyle – which usually turns up sold out items for at least a few days after they’ve gone out of stock – shows no sign of the dress. Neither does a search on Boutiques.com, which shows out of stock results in order to recommend current products. But that makes sense considering the dress is from the designer’s pre-fall collection, which probably wouldn’t actually make it on to websites or store floors until… mid-April (at the earliest). We smell a bonus for a clever PR agent.

Latest news and updates LOS ANGELES — It's far from definitive proof, but new research raises concern about diet soda, finding higher risks for stroke and heart attack among people who drink it everyday versus those who drink no soda at all.

The beverage findings should be "a wakeup call to pay attention to diet sodas," said Dr. Steven Greenberg. He is a Harvard Medical School neurologist and vice chairman of the International Stroke Conference in California, where the research was presented on Wednesday.

A simple solution, health experts say, is to drink water instead.

Doctors have no chemical or biological explanation for why diet soda may be risky. It could be that people who drink lots of it also fail to exercise, weigh more, drink more alcohol or have other risk factors like high blood pressure and smoking. However, the researchers took these and many other factors into account and didn't see a change in the trend.

Latest news and updates According to a new study presented at yesterday’s American Stroke Association International Stroke Conference in Los Angeles, there appears to be a definite correlation between diet soda consumption and an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

In the study of more than 2,500 subjects, people who drank diet soda daily had a 61 percent increased risk of cardiovascular events compared to those who drank no soda. This was found to be true even when accounting for smoking, physical activity, alcohol consumption and daily calories.

“This study suggests that diet soda is not an optimal substitute for sugar-sweetened beverages, and may be associated with a greater risk of stroke,” Hannah Gardener of the University of Miami and her colleagues reported at the conference. Gardener is an epidemiologist at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and lead author of the study.

Personally, I am an “over” person and it really bothers me when the toilet roll in hung under. And O know better. There are so many other things to be truly bothered by, and this really is totally trivial. But it’s some odd instinct that takes over when the roll is hung opposite of how I’m used to. So why do people care? Some say that it’s how you grew up which dictates how you like it in your own home. Did your mom hang it under? Then odds are you hang it under too. Therefore your children will hang it under, and so on and so on, creating generations of toilet roll underers.

There really is no “right way” to hang a toilet roll. Just preferences. But there is one way that it significantly more popular than the other.

Asked if the had relations, she said, “Yeah. We went back to his place in Jersey after dinner. He lives on a golf course. There was a big storm.”

Eliza also said she made sure to research the legality of dating a minor - 17 being the legal age of consent in New York and 16 in New Jersey.
